Institute of Sound & Vibro Pvt Ltd (ISVPL)
Redefining seismic protection with ultra-low-frequency steel mass-spring isolation systems engineered to withstand Magnitude 7–8+ earthquakes.
ISVPL is an Indian NVH (Noise–Vibration–Harshness) and seismic engineering startup developing tunable steel mass-spring base-isolation systems capable of protecting buildings and critical infrastructure from catastrophic failure during extreme earthquakes. Our technology focuses on ultra-low-frequency isolation ((<2 Hz)) , early attenuation of damaging seismic waves, and deep vibration reduction — performance typically associated with only a few global leaders.
The Problem We Are Solving
Conventional seismic design assumes limits on force and deformation. During very large earthquakes (Magnitude 7–8+), real ground motions often exceed these assumptions. Buildings experience dangerous low-frequency energy from S-waves and P-waves that amplify structural modes, causing:
- Inter-story drift beyond capacity
- Column, joint and connection failure
- Sudden, brittle collapse
- Failure of “code-compliant” structures under extreme events
This is a global threat — especially for metros, high-rise buildings, data centers, hospitals, and power plants. ISVPL directly targets this root problem.
Our Solution: Tunable Steel Mass–Spring Base Isolation
ISVPL has developed an ultra-low-frequency steel mass-spring system with:
- Vertical natural frequency ≈ 1.4 Hz
- Horizontal natural frequency ≈ 1.0 Hz
- Isolation crossover beginning as low as 1.98 Hz
- Vibration attenuation depth up to ~42 VdB (0–250 Hz global band)
- Effective control of both S-wave and P-wave energy
The system decouples the building from seismic input at frequencies that conventional systems cannot reach, dramatically reducing transmitted accelerations, base shear and inter-story drift — thereby lowering the probability of collapse in Magnitude 7–8+ earthquakes.
What Makes ISVPL Unique?
- Earlier isolation onset:Our system begins attenuation at ≈1.98 Hz — far earlier than typical 3–4 Hz isolators.
- Deeper attenuation:~42 VdB reduction (global band 0–250 Hz) — about 2× better than typical mass-spring or elastomeric systems.
- Vertical isolation at 1.4 Hz:Rare among global solutions; crucial for mitigating axial effects from P-waves.
- Second company globally:After GERB Germany, ISVPL is the only other company offering steel MSS at this performance level — with improved low-frequency capability.
How ISVPL Generates Revenue
ISVPL will manufacture and supply mass-spring seismic isolation systems for high-risk structures in seismic zones 3 and above — including power plants, high-rise buildings, metros, data centers and critical facilities.
- Year 1: Patent filing, manufacturing setup, revenue target ₹10–20 Cr
- Year 2: Scale to 50 skilled workers, target ₹75–100 Cr
- Year 3–4: International expansion to 5 countries
- Year 5: Target export to 10 countries, revenue ≈ ₹1000 Cr
The long-term goal is to capture global market share by offering the world’s most advanced steel mass-spring seismic protection technology.
